Roy and Liath return to tell you a bit more about who we are and how we are designed to meet you where you are.

Roy: | Welcome back. We’re glad you’re joining us again on our orientation journey. I’m Roy Huggins, the professional counselor, former programmer, big geek, and excessive fan of Swiss cheese. |
Liath: | And a little secret, Roy wholly endorses and loves the use of gifts in textural conversations. |
Roy: | Absolutely. |
Liath: | And, a little bit about me. I am a total animal lover. |
Roy: | Yes, that’s true. |
Liath: | And, my friends joke that I’m like Snow White and always have an adoring flock of animals around me. |
Roy: | It’s actually true. We had to shoo them out of the camera frame before we started recording. |
But, we’re here to talk about a different kind of animal. | |
Liath: | A HIPPA? |
Roy: | A practice tag. |
Liath: | A what? |
Roy: | Practice tag. What? Oh, you we’re thinking I was gonna do the HIPPA-potomus thing. |
Liath: | Yes. |
Roy: | Yeah. No, sorry. |
Liath: | No. There is a difference between HIPPA and hippos. |
Roy: | Right, the hippo is much more frightening. |

Because like we said last time, we know that’s what you’re all about. | |
Roy: | Right. Yeah, it is what you’re all about. And actually, that is why the company is called Person Centered Tech. It’s not just a reference to Rogerian therapy, although of course, it is a reference to Rogerian style. |
But, it’s meant to symbolize the fact that modern tech actually, can help you to help your clients better. There’s people on the other side of that tech. And, there’s ways to use the tech to meet clients where they are. Or to serve them better. Or even really, just to make your own practice more efficient so that you can spend more times with clients. Or at least just, spend more time less stressed. It’s a kind of, self care. | |
There’s a lot of advantages to making sure you’ve got the tech down correctly besides, just the core foundational things like, making sure your compliant with HIPPA. Or that, you’ve got you security picture in order. | |
These are all things we love to help with and it’s what we’re here for. | |
Liath: | Exactly. And Roy, people often have a really hard time grasping what our membership service is all about. So, it might be helpful if you give our members a little bit of a story as to how we came to be. |
Roy: | Oh yeah. Right. The story … The origin story of our membership service. |
Liath: | Yup. |
Roy: | Yeah. |
Well, the origin story basically comes down too, I used to do a lot of one-to-one consulting, which you expect, right? This is my background and so, people say. “Hey, can I consult with you or get your help with this? I’ll pay you.” I said. “Great.” So, I hung out a shingle doing that. | |
And, you can imagine that with the extensive amount of stuff most people need to work on, especially if they want to get a full handle on it. There’d be numerous hours involved in getting someone from zero to finished. Or even, zero to most of the way finished. And so, it would cost a lot of money. | |
Liath: | Right. |
Roy: | Or, if someone can’t spend that money in time, so they get a short consultation. We can cover a lot of stuff. But still, even just one hour is pricey, right? |
Liath: | Exactly. |
Roy: | I didn’t like that. I didn’t like that it would cost people a lot of money. I didn’t like that the … I was often helping people with the same stuff. Answering questions the same way. There’s little variations. |
So, I came up with our Office Hour service. | |
Liath: | Oh, that sounds fantastic. |
Roy: | It is fantastic, Liath. |
Well, I wanted it to be. I think it’s become fantastic and our members definitely give feedback that they think it’s pretty fantastic too. | |
The idea was and still is, that instead of doing one-to-one consultation that’s so expensive. People can pay a fixed price, make sure they know what their costs are. | |
Liath: | Right. |
Roy: | And, it’s about the same as about an hour of one-to-one. |
Liath: | Exactly. |
Roy: | And, it’s less. It’s actually less. And then, you can come to see me online and I can answer whatever question you have. Or, you can send in your questions and I’ll answer them when you watch the recording. |
There’s the whole bank of past questions answered. It’s really grown into a major service that allows people to both, get their general foundational questions answered. Or, they’re extremely specific, more advanced, totally personal questions answered. And no one has to spend anymore money than they did in the first place. And I don’t have to spend anymore time. | |
So, it’s a really good deal. | |
Liath: | Exactly. And, I want to expand on that a little bit and say that, part of the way that we do Office Hours is to, record each session and then, break every question and answer into an individual clip. |
Roy: | Right. Yup. |
Liath: | So, that’s a great resource for you in two senses. One, if you’re not able to join the live recording, you can just watch it on demand like a podcast. Or, if you are on the live recording and dialogue with Roy about your question or particular practice considerations. You can just review the recording when it comes time to implement any of the items that you and Roy discussed. |
Roy: | Right. And people do so frequently. |
Liath: | Exactly. |
Roy: | Or they ask follow up questions. Yeah, there’s a lot of that stuff. |
Liath: | Right. And, part of my role as well, is to act as your reference librarian or human search engine. |
Roy: | I call her the Human Search Engine. |
Liath: | Yes. But, both terms are applicable. |
Roy: | Right. |
Liath: | And essentially, what that means is that, we don’t expect you to sift through all of the resources that we provide. |
Roy: | Yeah. |
Liath: | We just want you to ask your questions and then, it’s my role to answer those questions or get you to the place that will answer those questions. |
Roy: | Right. So, okay. So of course, having a counselor who’s a super tech geek and ethics geek, answer your questions. And also having someone who’s a PhD candidate, sort through it and help you find all your answers. Must cost a lot of money, right Liath? |
Liath: | It shockingly doesn’t. |
Roy: | What? About how much does it cost Liath? |
Liath: | It actually costs less than one hour of individual consultation with Roy. |
Roy: | How long do you get that membership? |
Liath: | And, you get it for an entire year. |
Roy: | What? That’s insanity I tell you. Yeah. |
Liath: | And, you get a lot of other fantastic resources, which we will tell you about in further detail in our next video. |
Roy: | Right. Yeah. |
